In 2008, in the vibrant heart of Valencia, an independent art gallery hosted a monumental work that would change the perception of space and geometry in contemporary art.
The work, known as ‘Geometrías Espaciales’ (Spatial Geometries), was not limited to a single space. In 2010, after having travelled and left its mark in various corners of the city, it culminated its journey in a majestic exhibition at the Colegio de Psicólogos de Valencia. There, the piece not only dialogued with its surroundings but also invited a profound reflection on the relationship between the human mind and the perception of space and form.
The journey of ‘Geometrías Espaciales’ did not end in Valencia. The work crossed borders and arrived in Berlin for the exhibition ‘Your Berlin for my Valencia’, where it was exhibited in a renowned gallery. This cultural exchange underlined the universality of Durome's work, which transcends languages and geographies, connecting with a diverse and eclectic public.
In addition, the work was recognised by the Museo de Arte Moderno y Contemporáneo de Colombia. In a call entitled ‘Las Puertas’ (The Doors), ‘Geometrías Espaciales’ was exhibited in the museum's outdoor precincts, interacting with the urban environment and allowing an even wider audience to experience its grandeur and depth. This public exhibition highlighted the work's ability to dialogue not only with interior spaces but also with the urban landscape, integrating and standing out in its context.
The Dance of Abstraction and Mathematics
In the vast surface of ‘Spatial Geometries’, Durome traces a universe where abstraction meets mathematical precision. Geometric forms intertwine and separate, creating a visual rhythm that evokes the complexity of mathematical codes and the precision of algorithms. In this network of lines and shapes, we can glimpse the forerunners of what would later become QR codes, a representation of how artistic abstraction can anticipate technological developments.
Durome's capacity for abstraction in this work is a meditation on the infinity of meanings. Each viewer, faced with the magnitude of ‘Geometrías Espaciales’, can find his or her own interpretation, his or her own personal code of understanding. The work thus becomes a mirror of the mind, reflecting the diversity and depth of human thought.
The execution of ‘Spatial Geometries’ is a testament to Durome's mastery. Each stroke, each intersection of lines, demonstrates exceptional precision and sensitivity. The work recalls the visual complexity of Escher's mazes, Mondrian's meticulousness and Kandinsky's exploration of space. However, Durome does not imitate; he expands and enriches, taking geometric abstraction to new heights.
